Why not just have high fuel taxes ala Europe?In CT we are taxed I believe 50 cents on every gallon. The problem is that as gas prices rise people buy less of it and the taxes dry up.

Amazed to see the queue down the street and round the corner, joined it at 6.30pm fortunately it moved fast and was out the door with my copy within 20 minutes. Would have been quicker if I'd known about the upstairs!

I think the Mini and Macbook will go C2D at the same time and this will be at the same time or just shortly after the Macbook Pro. With MBP line, I would expect the slowest CPU offering to be the 2.16GHz with an option of a 2.33GHz upgrade and the 2.33 will probably be standard on the 17". The Mini and Macbook will probably get the 1.6GHz and 1.83GHz C2D chips with an option to upgrade to the 2GHz C2D. At the 2GHz mark, it's still Core 2, but has half the cache and still a notch slower than MBP offerings. MBP may also have a 2GHz offering, but it will be the 4MB L2 cache chip.

I don't see Apple getting more than 10% marketshare anytime soon unless they do something significant.
If they have the richest 10% than that's important as they probably buy 50% of software, to Apple $499 machines don't matter as the users are (generally) ignorant (as they don't want to spend a lot on a computer so generally don't care about them) and are therefore more likely to get Spyware/Viruses, they also don't buy any software (except possibly Office), Apple *wants* those users on Windows.
Also their laptop share is already 12% in the US, with more stores that could grow to about 20% easily.

I haven't read the whole article yet, but from the sounds of it, it seems as though a laptop can be charged without plugging in it. That is the processor that converts heart to electricity could either charge the battery or provide it's own power to the laptop. That would extend battery life, not sure by how much, but if it is a decent amount, this technology would be great for laptops.
Then again there's the heat issue. While the heat will provide electricity, your going to have to have a decent cooling system, which hopefully wouldn't suck to much power. Or maybe the converted power can be used only for the cooling system leaving the rest for the battery, thus conserving power anyways....just thinking aloud here though. :)

RFID tags can be relatively large and battery-powered, such as ones used in toll collection, to small "passive" tags that can be embedded into credit cards, drivers licenses (called "Enhanced Drivers Licenses" in the U.S.), passports, or stuck onto a piece of merchandise.
Currently, cell-phone usage of RFID technology is centered around Near Field Communication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_Field_Communication) (NFC). NFC has three main usage scenarios: a phone acting as an RFID tag; a phone acting as an RFID reader; and peer to peer communication (P2P).
In RFID tag mode, a phone could be used as a payment device (like a credit card), an identity card, or act as a car key. In RFID reader mode the phone would be able to interact with tags in its vicinity. In my opinion, Pages is not all that bad. It needs some tweaking and Apple has to fix some bugs. I'm sure Pages 2 will be a great app for everyone who wants to do basic wordprocessing and publishing without the limitations of TextEdit. I guess most people are disappointed with Pages because of the following two reasons:
a) Pages wasn't finished when it was released
b) Pre-MWSF rumours were talking about an MS Office replacement or killer so many people think of Pages as being a replacement for Word. But I think Pages was never intended to replace Word, it's more like iMovie vs. FCP/FCE.

In my opinion, Pages is not all that bad. It needs some tweaking and Apple has to fix some bugs. I'm expecting both a retail DVD release as well as a downloadable release. I'll personally be getting the DVD for easier install on multiple machines.

You know that DVDs are slow, right? Even this 5400RPM drive is 4x faster than the DVD would be. This is my gray install DVD, which I'm going to replace with Lion once it's out, btw. This works fine with USB sticks/SD cards and the regular Snow Leopard DVD as well, if you need it more often. Just make sure to get an USB stick that is faster than the DVD (~10MB/s).

I believe the Consumerist will be more than willing to hype incorrect information it has received from an uninformed rep if it means increased site traffic, especially if it furthers the aim of hyping up a theme that's en vogue right now. It's a blog with a business interests and it receives revenue based on traffic, and that means it, like any other blog with business interests, has an agenda to pursue.
So like every other "news" source on the internet, I take what I read with a grain of salt.

Your gas is also taxed to hell; meanwhile, I bet your minimum wage is higher, while your cost of living is comparable or lower.
We're at $3.59/Gal right now. Definitely not as bad as some of you have it, but it totally sucks as a poor as hell college student. A fill-up costs me about $60, and lasts me about two weeks. But anytime I want to go home (which, I will for Easter), I will go through about two tanks.
EDIT: Decided to do the research myself; see that you actually don't have a minimum wage in effect. I applaud you, as I don't believe in a minimum wage, myself. That said, what I said does hold true for a fair amount of countries that make fun of Americans for complaining about gasoline prices.

Maybe because both me and my girlfriend are minorities and have used PP for STD testing, contraception, etc, she'd be pissed that resources were spent on us.
Who cares though because this is all beside the point. All the racial talk is just proof by obfuscation.

I'm hoping one of the super secret features is a completely reworked Finder. While I don't think it's a deal-breaker by any means, I have to agree with those who say that the Finder is generally sluggish in ways that it should not be. I have a Windows XP box on my desk next to my G5 and XP's windows and menus are lightning fast and immediately responsive. Further, icons and file lists are pulled up instantaneously. With the Finder on the G5, there's always that little pause or the list of files take a second or two to show up or icons take a while to load. There's no reason Apple shouldn't be equal to or better than XP's interface, but it's not. It's the one area where Apple hasn't quite nailed it.
Still, I would take OS X over XP any day, but it sure would be good news to me to hear a fully revamped Finder with all these slowdowns ironed out.

Yes, but that's just the industry bending to MS's will, not Microsoft actually producing a quality product. That's what's so frustrating here!
